The total labor output of the discipline is 3 credits, 108 hours.
The goals of the educational practice "Care of patients undergoing therapeutic treatment" are to deepen and consolidate the theoretical training of students; to study the work of nursing medical personnel in a hospital’s therapeutic unit; to study and improve practical skills acquired by students when studying previous disciplines.
The objectives of the educational practice "Care of patients undergoing therapeutic treatment" are:
- Getting familiar with the organization of work of therapeutic units in hospitals: the structure of a therapeutic unit, its layout, hygiene requirements and sanitization of the wards, a treatment room, a dressing room, an operating room, hospital’s medical treatment regimen.
- Studying the functional responsibilities of nurses in a therapeutic clinic.
- Unsupervised work as nursing medical staff.

The educational practice "Care of patients undergoing therapeutic treatment" refers to the base part of block C2 of the Practice (specialty) 31.05.01 General Medicine. The educational practice "Care of patients undergoing therapeutic treatment" is methodologically related and based on the disciplines: History of Medicine, Jurisprudence, Latin, Psychology and Pedagogy, Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Anatomy. The practice "Care of patients undergoing therapeutic treatment" is a training section that forms the basis of the clinical thinking of a future physician. The basic skills acquired during the educational practice "Care of patients undergoing therapeutic treatment" should be used in further study of the following disciplines: "Functional diagnostics", "Propaedeutics of internal diseases, radiation diagnostics", "General surgery, radiation diagnostics", "Clinical pharmacology ", and etc., as well as in preparation for field training devoted to obtaining professional skills and experience in professional activities, clinical practice (doctor’s assistant), clinical practice (doctor’s assistant at an outpatient clinic) and preparation for the state attestation.
The competences acquired during the educational practice “Care of patients undergoing therapeutic treatment” prepare students for mastering other professional competences. The process of studying the discipline is aimed at the formation of the following competences:
- the ability to abstract thinking, analysis, synthesis (GC-1);
- the ability and readiness to implement ethical and deontological principles (GPC-4)
- readiness to ensure the organization of patient care and to provide primary medical care (GPC-10)
- the ability and readiness to implement a set of measures aimed at maintaining and strengthening health, including the formation of a healthy lifestyle, preventing the onset and (or) spread of diseases, their early diagnosis, identifying the causes and conditions of their occurrence and development, as well as aimed at eliminating harmful effects of environmental factors on human health. (SPC-1);
- the ability and readiness to collect and analyze patients’ complaints, their medical history, examination results, laboratory, instrumental, pathological and anatomical and other studies in order to recognize their condition or establish the presence or absence of a disease (SPC-5);
- the ability to determine the main pathological conditions in patients, symptoms and syndromes of diseases, nosological forms in accordance with the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, 10th revision (SPC-6);
- the ability to determine the management tactics of patients with various nosological forms. (SPC-8);
- readiness to manage and treat patients with various nosological forms on outpatient and inpatient bases (SPC-9);
- readiness for analysis and public presentation of medical evidence-based. (SPC-20)
Based on the acquired knowledge, students obtain the abilities to competently and independently evaluate social situations in Russia and abroad and carry out their activities taking into account the results of this analysis; to correctly explain the consequences of refusing surgery to patients, possible changes and complications during surgery; to use items and patient care products; to use at least 900 terminological units and terminological elements; to build and maintain working relationships with other team members; to use the knowledge of the basics of human psychology, to improve their professional knowledge and skills, while realizing disciplinary, administrative, civil and criminal liability; to collect an anamnesis, to conduct a physical examination, to interpret the results of the examinations, to come up with and formulate preliminary and clinical diagnoses (main, concomitant, complications), to write a medical history; to put into practice diagnostic algorithms for various diseases and to outline the amount of additional research to clarify the diagnosis; to perform basic diagnostic measures to identify the most common diseases, emergency and life-threatening conditions; to put into practice the methods of evidence-based medicine in assessing the health status of adults and adolescents, the activities of medical institutions and in scientific research.
Students develop the skills of expressing an independent point of view, analyzing and logical thinking, public speaking, moral and ethical argumentation, conducting discussions and panel discussions; applying the principles of deontological communication with patients, their relatives, nursing staff, doctors; using the primary surgical care technique; applying the principles of medical deontology and medical ethics; reading and writing clinical and pharmaceutical terms and recipes in Latin; applying the principles of analyzing the results of clinical, laboratory and instrumental methods for examining patients; preliminary and clinical diagnoses, choosing a treatment based on the results of laboratory and instrumental examinations of adults and adolescents; methods of evidence-based medicine in assessing the health status of adults and adolescents, the activities of medical institutions and in scientific research.
