The total labor output of the discipline is 2 credits, 72 hours.
The goal of mastering the discipline "Science of Science" is to achieve the combined results of education in the form of general cultural, general professional and professional competencies necessary for mastering subsequent academic disciplines and in the professional activities of specialists and the development of theoretical knowledge by students in the field of statistics, the acquisition of skills in using methods for obtaining and processing statistical information. The objectives of studying the discipline "Science of Science" are: obtaining basic computer skills; studying the main specialized software packages, mastering the methods of searching, storing, processing and analyzing information, mastering theoretical knowledge in the field of statistics, acquiring skills in using methods of obtaining and processing statistical information. The discipline "Science of Science" refers to the variable part of block 1 of the discipline at the student’s choice. The discipline "Science of Science" is interconnected with the disciplines: physics, mathematics. The main provisions of the discipline "Science of Science" are necessary for the study of the following subjects: medical informatics, normal physiology, pharmacology; public health and healthcare, healthcare economics.
The process of studying the discipline is aimed at the formation of the following competences:
- readiness for self-development, self-realization, self-education, usage of creative potential (GC-5);
- readiness for communication in oral and written forms in Russian and foreign languages for solving problems of professional activity (GPC-2);
- readiness for analysis and public presentation of medical information based on evidence-based medicine (SPC-20).
During the study of the discipline "Science of Science", students learn about the basic mechanisms for collecting, analyzing, processing and visualizing information, techniques for calculating statistical indicators characterizing medical phenomena, and the basic mechanisms for identifying trends in medical indicators. Based on the acquired knowledge, students obtain the abilities to collect and register statistical information, to conduct primary processing and control of observational materials, to perform calculations of statistical indicators and formulate main conclusions, to analyze the phenomena studied, including by means of computer technologies. Students develop the skills in using mathematical, statistical and quantitative methods of collecting, analyzing and processing data, skills in calculating the main statistical indicators for processing medical data in accordance with the task, methods of descriptive statistics and analysis of the studied phenomena and processes. Types of academic work: practical exercises, unsupervised work. The study of the subject’s sections ends with a pass-fail test.
