1. The purpose of mastering the discipline
The objectives of mastering the discipline "Practical phonetics of the Russian language" are:
- to train, fix and correct sounds of the Russian language; to develop hearing and pronunciation skills in the field of segment and super-segment phenomena of the phonetic system of the Russian language;
- to develop general professional competencies based on the knowledge of the practical phonetics of the Russian language;
- to develop students' general and communicative competences (linguistic, communicative, sociocultural and linguistic competences) in relation to all types of communicative activities in various areas of speech communication;
- to formation systematic knowledge of the Russian language as the foundation of basic professional training;
- to develop the ability to understand speech by ear and adequate response in the process of communication with the interlocutor.

Section 1. Adaptation-corrective, introductory-phonetic
Theme 1.1. Russian alphabet
Theme 1.2. The concept of syllable. Hyphenation. Vocalism
Theme 1.3. Phonetic units of speech: sounds and letters
Theme 1.4. Distinction of consonant phonemes by “softness-hardness”
Section 2. Basic course of Russian phonetics
Theme 2.1. Features of the articulation base of the Russian language in the field of vocalism and consonantism
Theme 2.2. Classification of consonants
Theme 2.3. Syllable and contention
Theme 2.4. Stress in the Russian language. Reduction
Theme 2.5. Articulatory features of vowels in various phonetic positions
Theme 2.6. Pronunciation of unstressed vowels
Theme 2.7. Assimilation of consonants on various grounds
Theme 2.8. Intonation. The concept of intonation
Theme 3. Orthoepic norms of the modern Russian language
3. The labor output of the discipline
The total labor output of the discipline is 2 credits, 72 hours.
4. Progress assessment
Interim assessment is in the form of a pass-fail test.
