Abstract of the study program for the discipline Departmental Surgery, Urology 
The total workload of the discipline is 7 credits, 252 hours. 

  1. The goal of mastering Departmental Surgery, Urology is the formation of students’ professional competences that contribute to the practical and theoretical study of the most typical nosological forms of surgical and urological diseases.  
  2. The objectives of the discipline Departmental Surgery, Urology are: acquiring profound medical knowledge that forms students’ professional competences, which allow studying etiopathogenesis, key clinical symptoms, diagnostic algorithm, and methods of treating the most typical nosological forms of surgical and urological diseases. 
  3. The academic discipline Departmental Surgery, Urology refers to the basic part of block C.1. Disciplines. The discipline Departmental Surgery, Urology is one of the main clinical disciplines. In the process of studying theoretical and practical material, students get acquainted with the most common surgical and urological pathology based on knowledge obtained while studying the following disciplines: Human Anatomy, Normal and Pathological Physiology, Pharmacology, Topographic 

Anatomy and Operative Surgery, General Surgery, Propedeutics of Internal Diseases. The main provisions of Departmental Surgery, Urology are necessary for the study of clinical disciplines: Hospital and Pediatric Surgery, Modern Technologies in Treatment of Surgical Patients, Hospital Therapy. 
Competences acquired during the study of the discipline Departmental Surgery, Urology prepare students for the development of other professional competences. The process of studying the discipline is aimed at the formation of the following competences: 

  • readiness to collect and analyze patient complaints, his medical history, examination results, laboratory, instrumental, autopsy and other studies in order to recognize the condition or establish the presence or absence of the disease (PC-5);
  • ability to determine the patient's underlying pathological conditions, symptoms, disease syndromes, nosological forms in accordance with the International Statistical 
  • Classification of Diseases and Health Problems, X revision (PC-6); 
  • ability to determine the tactics of managing patients with various nosological forms (PC-8);  
 
On successful completion of the discipline, abilities to determine the presence of surgical pathology and urological diseases are formed; students are able to diagnose the cause of these conditions based on the results of the main and additional research methods. Students acquire skills in the use of survey methods, physical examination, clinical examination, methods of evaluating the results of modern laboratory and instrumental studies used in the diagnosis of the most typical nosological forms of surgical and urological diseases. Types of educational work: practical classes, lectures, independent work, course work. The study of discipline ends with an exam.
