Regional Mental Hospital named after K.R. Evgrafov is a large specialized medical institution having over 100 doctors and 300 paramedical specialists employed. The hospital offers all types of psychiatric aid as well as forensic medical examination. It is the center of organized methodological care and counseling in the field of psychiatry and psychotherapy in Penza region.

For several years, the Medical Institute has been successfully dealing with the problem of regional medical staffing. For its history, the Medical Institute has prepared 2927 specialists, 668 interns, and 514 clinical residents.

The graduates of the Medical Institute are distinguished by their competence at work, a persistently high level of knowledge, abilities and skills, discipline and initiative, allowing to efficiently implement their work activities.

The high quality of training in the Medical Institute of PSU is promoted by such factors as a high professional level of teachers (most of them are active medical practitioners with academic degrees), cutting edge equipment, particularly the Simulation Center. On the basis of the Simulation Center students and clinical residents master practical skills in medical aid rendering, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation, aid at injuries, obstetric and gynecological aid.

In the course of studying, much attention is paid to students’ practical training in leading medical institutions of the city, thus, enabling students to develop practical skills along with theoretical knowledge in a chosen field and, upon graduation from the Medical Institute, to rapidly and effectively adapt to working in a medical organization.

We would also like to point out such an important factor of specialist training as the formation of personal qualities allowing graduates to effectively work both with patients and colleagues, to take active part in activities and development of a medical institution. A distinctive feature of the Medical Institute graduates is the innovative approach and creative attitude to fulfillment of the set problem of preserving the health of the population of Penza region.
