The goals of mastering the discipline "Topical issues of morbid anatomy" are: to study the structural foundations of diseases, their etiology and pathogenesis for a more in-depth study of the clinic and the use of the acquired knowledge in the work of a general practitioner, as well as to study some aspects of the legal organization of medical activity.
The objectives of studying "Topical issues of morbid anatomy" are: to study the features of the course of pathological processes, their manifestations in various nosological forms, to master the methods of establishing a clinical diagnosis, its regularities, navigating in the legal framework of medical activity. The discipline "Topical issues of morbid anatomy" refers to the variable part of block C1.2 of the discipline at the student’s choice. The discipline "Topical issues of morbid anatomy" is interconnected with the following disciplines: histology, embryology, cytology; microbiology, virology, immunology; pathophysiology, pathological anatomy. The main provisions of "Topical issues of morbid anatomy" are necessary for the in-depth study of the following disciplines: neurology, otorhinolaryngology; ophthalmology; forensic medicine; obstetrics; pediatrics; internal diseases, infectious diseases; phthisiology, general surgery, surgical diseases.
The process of studying the discipline is aimed at the formation of the following competencies:
- the ability to abstract thinking, analysis, synthesis (GC-1)
- the ability to assess morphofunctional, physiological conditions and pathological processes in the human body to solve professional problems (GPC-9)
- readiness to collect and analyze patients’ complaints, their medical history, examination results, laboratory, instrumental, pathological and anatomical and other studies in order to recognize their condition or establish the presence or absence of a disease (SPC-5)
- the ability to determine the main pathological conditions in patients, symptoms and syndromes of diseases, nosological forms in accordance with the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, 10th revision (SPC-6)
- readiness to analyze and publicly present medical information based on evidence-based medicine (SPC-20)
In the course of studying the discipline "Topical issues of morbid anatomy", students learn the general laws of the course of pathological processes in the body of an adult and an adolescent at the microscopic and macroscopic levels; basic nosological forms and features of their course. Based on the acquired knowledge, students obtain the abilities to work with magnifying equipment (microscopes, optical and simple magnifiers); to identify signs of general pathological processes, to identify individual nosological units, to use the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems. Students develop the skills in microscopy, operating the medical conceptual apparatus, analyzing biopsy and sectional examination data.
Types of educational work: lectures, practical exercises.
The study of the discipline ends with a pass-fail test.
