Annotation of the work program of the discipline "Oncology, radiation therapy" in the specialty 05.31.01 "Medical business"
The total complexity of the discipline is 3 credits, 108 hours.

The goal of mastering the discipline “Oncology, radiation therapy” is to prepare a qualified medical specialist with a system of general cultural and professional competencies, study the structural foundations of oncological diseases, their etiology and pathogenesis to comprehend the theoretical foundations of medicine, study the clinic in more depth and use the knowledge gained for independent professional the activities of a specialist.
The objectives of the study of the discipline of oncology, radiation therapy are:
  • familiarization of students with the basic principles of theoretical oncology;
  • training of the future general practitioner in early recognition of malignant neoplasms during examination of the patient, differential diagnosis with other diseases that occur with similar symptoms based on their leading syndromes, training in the selection of optimal laboratory and instrumental examination methods to confirm or cancel the diagnosis of cancer;
  •  training the future doctor in tactics in cases of suspected malignant neoplasm;
  •  study of the main nosological forms of malignant tumors, the possibilities of their prevention and early diagnosis;
  •  familiarization with the features of the organization of cancer care for the population of Russia and with the modern principles of diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients.

The discipline "Oncology, radiation therapy" refers to the base part of block C1. Disciplines.
Oncology is one of the basic (general) disciplines, which is interconnected with the disciplines: pathological anatomy, clinical pathological anatomy; pathophysiology, clinical pathophysiology; anatomy; topographic anatomy and operative surgery; histology, embryology. cytology; microbiology, virology; immunology; pharmacology.
The main provisions of oncology are necessary for the study of disciplines: dermatovenerology; neurology, neurosurgery; otorhinolaryngology; ophthalmology; forensic Medicine; obstetrics and gynecology; pediatrics; faculty therapy, occupational diseases; hospital therapy, endocrinology; infectious diseases; phthisiology; general surgery, radiation diagnostics; anesthesiology, intensive care, intensive care; faculty surgery, urology; hospital surgery; Dentistry outpatient therapy.
The process of studying the discipline is aimed at the formation of the following competencies:
  • Willingness to abstract thinking, analysis, synthesis (OK-1)
  • Ability and willingness to analyze the results of their own activities to prevent professional errors (OPK-5)
  • Willingness to collect and analyze patient complaints, data his anamnesis, examination results, laboratory, instrumental, pathological, anatomical and other studies in order to recognize the condition or establish the fact of the presence or absence of a disease (PK-5)
  • Willingness to determine in patients pathological conditions, symptoms, syndromes of diseases, nosological forms in accordance with the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Health Problems, X revision (PK-6)
  • Ability to determine management tactics for patients with various nosological forms (PK -8)

As a result of mastering the discipline "Oncology, radiation therapy", students acquire knowledge about the etiology, pathogenesis, morphogenesis and preventive measures of the most common diseases, the modern classification of diseases; the clinical picture, flow characteristics and possible complications of the most common diseases that occur in a typical form in different age groups; diagnostic methods, diagnostic capabilities of methods for direct examination of a patient with a therapeutic, surgical and infectious profile, modern clinical methods,laboratory, instrumental examination of patients (including endoscopic, radiological methods, ultrasound diagnostics); criteria for the diagnosis of various diseases. Based on the acquired knowledge, the skills to set priorities for solving the patient’s health problems are formed: critical (terminal) state, state with pain syndrome, state with chronic disease, condition with infectious disease, disability, geriatric problems, state of mentally ill patients;
 outline the volume of additional studies in accordance with the prognosis of the disease, to clarify the diagnosis and obtain a reliable result; formulate a clinical diagnosis; develop a plan of therapeutic (surgical) actions, taking into account the course of the disease and its treatment; fill out medical history, write out a prescription. Acquired skills in the proper management of medical records; interpretation of the results of laboratory, instrumental diagnostic methods; an algorithm for a detailed clinical diagnosis; preliminary diagnosis algorithm followed by referral of the patient to the appropriate specialist physician.
