Abstract of the study program Dentistry for the specialty –- General medicine
1. Goal of the discipline
The goal of the discipline Dentistry is broadening students’ theoretical knowledge and practical skills required for providing dental care to patients with pathology of the oral cavity.
The objectives of the discipline Dentistry are:
- To study anatomical and physiological features and functions of different parts of the oral cavity, to give an idea about the anatomical and physiological features of the maxillofacial area in dental and general pathology;
- Learn basic research methods in dentistry, get to know modern methods of examination of patients,learn to diagnose andtreat the most common, available non-specialist doctors Diseases, briefly familiarize yourself with the principles of professional selection;
- To study the optimal schemes of etiotropic and pathogenetic treatment for the main nosological forms of maxillofacial disease; to get acquainted with common diseases in dentistry, to learn how to diagnose and treat the most common of them factoring in their relations with general pathology;
- To master the clinical picture of some forms of dental diseases and their treatment, including surgical methods;
- To get acquainted with the indications for surgical treatment of the CHD , principles of operations.
- To study the clinical picture of maxillofacial injuries( CHD injuries ) , to explore the urgency of referral to a dentist, to provide first aid for injuries;
- To learn how to provide emergency care for injuries and introduce methods of treatment;
- To get acquainted with the methods of diagnosing and treating non-inflammatory diseases, as well as maxillofacial tumors(CHD damage or tumors ) .
2. Place of the discipline in Basic Professional Educational Program (BPEP)
The "Dentistry" training discipline refers to the basic part of the C1 block. "Discipline" studied in the 7th semester.
Dentistry is one of the basic disciplines that lays the foundations,study of surgical pathology of the CHD, necessary for any clinician outside depending on his further specialization.
The main provisions of the discipline of Dentistry are necessary for further students in the following disciplines: hospital surgery, pediatric surgery, surgery, trauma and orthopedics, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, infectious diseases, physiotherapy, dermatomenerology.

Readiness to provide emergency medical care in conditions requiring urgent medical intervention |
Know: principles of diagnosing and treating dental diseases; basics of pharmacotherapy for various dental diseases. Be able to: assess the cause, severity of patient's condition and justify the choice of complex treatment; determine the scope and sequence of therapeutic, surgical and organizational measures (hospitalization, outpatient treatment, counseling); substantiate the scheme, plan and tactics of patient management, indications and contraindications to therapy. Obtain and apply: methods of using drugs, techniques for anesthetic injections; methods of providing emergency aid. |
3. Content of the discipline.
The total workload of the discipline totals 2 credit units, 72 hours.
- subject and tasks of dentistry. Issues of dispensation and prevention dental diseases. The main problems of dentistry and the importance of them for General practitioner
- Non-carious lesions occurring before teething. Etiology, clinical picture, treatment, prevention.
- Non-carious lesions occurring after teething. Etiology, clinical picture, treatment, prevention.
- Teeth diseases: caries. Etiology, clinical picture, treatment, prevention.
- Inflammatory diseases of jaws: pericoronitis. Diagnosis, clinical picture, treatment, prevention. Emergency assistance.
- Inflammatory diseases of jaws: periostitis. Diagnosis, clinical picture, treatment, prevention. Emergency assistance.
- Inflammatory diseases of jaws: osteomyelitis. Diagnosis, clinical picture, treatment, prevention. Emergency assistance.
- Teeth diseases: pulpitis. Etiology, clinical picture, treatment, prevention.
- Dental diseases: periodontitis. Etiology, clinical picture, treatment, prevention.
- Control activity.
4. Types of training
The types of training include lectures, practical classes, independent work, writing papers, passing tests.
The discipline ends with credit in the 7th semester.
