specialty - 31.05.01 General Medicine
The total labor output of the discipline is 2 credits, 72 hours.
The goal of mastering the discipline "Particular issues of pulmonology and allergology" is to acquire knowledge about the etiology and pathogenesis, clinical manifestations of the main pulmonological and allergological diseases, to consolidate and improve the skills in examining therapeutic patients, to establish the principles of clinical thinking, to teach differential diagnostic methods, to consolidate and expand the scope of skills in interpreting the most common instrumental laboratory examination methods, to teach the principles of treatment of pulmonological and allergological patients.
The objectives of the discipline is to study the epidemiology, etiology and pathogenesis of the main pulmonological and allergological diseases; the symptoms that characterize the course and determine diagnostic possibilities for the main diseases using modern instrumental laboratory methods; syndrome complexes of the main diseases in the base of differential diagnostics of individual nosologies; basic principles of pharmacotherapy of a number of pulmonological and allergological diseases in accordance with domestic standards and treatment protocols for these categories of patients.
The subject’s place in the specialist MPEP’s structure:
The discipline "Particular issues of pulmonology and allergology" refers to the variable part of block C1 of the discipline, forming the basis of the clinical thinking of a future specialist. In the process of studying the discipline, students obtain basic ideas about the methodology of clinical diagnosis, disease symptoms, syndrome complexes, diagnosis of the most common pulmonological and allergological diseases, the key principles of pharmacotherapy and non-drug treatment.
The discipline is based on the knowledge gained as a result of studying the humanities, natural sciences, medical prophylactic and general clinical disciplines (bioethics; Latin; biology; biochemistry; anatomy; morbid anatomy and clinical morbid anatomy; normal physiology; pathophysiology, clinical pathophysiology; histology, embryology, cytology; microbiology, virology; hygiene; pharmacology; care for therapeutic patients; propaedeutics of internal diseases, diagnostic radiology; faculty therapy, occupational diseases, etc.).
The competences acquired in the course of studying the discipline "Particular issues of pulmonology and allergology" prepare students for the development of other professional competences. The process of studying the discipline is aimed at the formation of the following competences:
- the ability and readiness to determine the tactics of managing patients with various nosological forms (SPC-8).
- the ability and readiness to analyze and publicly present medical information based on evidence-based medicine. (SPC-20)
Based on the acquired knowledge, students obtain the abilities to collect a medical history, to conduct a physical examination (examination, palpation, percussion, determine the characteristics of the pulse, breathing rate, blood pressure measurement), to interpret the results of the examination, to give a preliminary and clinical diagnosis, to outline the scope of additional examinations to clarify a diagnosis, to write a medical history; to use the algorithms for diagnosing various diseases and to outline the scope of additional examination to clarify a diagnosis, to perform basic diagnostic measures to identify the most common diseases, emergency and life-threatening conditions; to use the algorithms for treating various diseases, to develop an individual management and treatment plan taking into account the course of a disease, to formulate indications for a chosen treatment method taking into account etiology and pathogenesis, to substantiate pharmacotherapy for a particular patient with major pathological syndromes and emergency conditions, to write prescription;. to apply in practice the methods of evidence-based medicine in assessing the health status of adults and adolescents, the activities of medical institutions and in scientific research.
Students develop the skills in applying the standards of patient management (an algorithm for diagnosis and treatment, indications for hospitalization) for the most common diseases; basic medical measures for first aid in emergency and life-threatening conditions; methods of evidence-based medicine in assessing the health status of adults and adolescents, the activities of medical institutions and in scientific research;
Types of educational work: practical classes, unsupervised work.
The study of the discipline ends with a pass-fail test.
