Medical anthropology

 Study program abstract of discipline “Medical anthropology” 
Overall workload equals 3 ECTSs, 108 hours. 

The purpose of the mastering of medical anthropology is the study of anatomical and physiological, age and sex, and the individual characteristics of the structure of the human organism. 
The purposes of studying medical anthropology are: to study the variability of the structure and topography of body, individual, gender and age-specific body structure, variability of certain organs and defects of their development. 
Academic discipline «Medical anthropology» refers to variable part of the cycle C1. 
Disciplines. 
Medical anthropology is one of the basic disciplines, which is connected with the disciplines: Latin, Biology, Histology, and Human Anatomy. 
The main theses of Medical anthropology require for studying the clinical disciplines: Physiology, Pathological Anatomy, Topographic Anatomy and Operative Surgery, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Neurology, Otorhinolaryngology, Ophthalmology, Urology, Traumatology and Orthopedics. 
 
Study process of medical anthropology is aimed at building professional competences: 
  • ability of abstract thinking, logical analysis and synthesis skills (GC-1); 
  • willingness to solve typical problems in their professional activities using different information sources, medical terminology, computer technologies and complying with the demands of information security (GPC-1); 
  • implementing knowledge in general science and its branches for solving professional tasks (GPC-7); 
  • knowing how to use medicines, medical products and technologies in solving professional problems (GPC-9); 
 
While studying a discipline «Medical anthropology» the students acquire knowledge of general laws of the origin and development of life; anthropogenesis and ontogenesis of human; basic laws of development and functioning of the body of adult man and teen on the basis of the structural cell, tissues and organ organization; anatomic-physiological, age and sex, and individual characteristics of the structure and development of a healthy human; anatomic research methods and anatomic terms; anatomy of organs, systems, parts of their structure, their main function; relationship with each other, their projection on the surface of the body; main options for the structure and malformations. 
The acquired knowledge leads to formation of the following skills: the anatomic tools, to find and display organs and parts of organs on anatomical aids; to find by the method of preparation large blood vessels, nerves, glands ducts, separated organs; to find on x-rays basic details of the structure, palpate human for finding the main bone landmarks, to outline topographic organs’ contours and major vascular and nerve-trunks; to analyze the results of X-ray examination of patients.
