1. The goals of mastering the discipline
The goal of mastering the discipline "Otorhinolaryngology" is to acquire theoretical knowledge and skills necessary for a doctor to provide otorhinolaryngological care to patients with pathologies of the ENT organs.
The objectives of mastering the discipline "Otorhinolaryngology" are as follows:
- to study the anatomical and physiological features and functions of various parts of the ENT organs, to form an idea of the meaning, anatomophysiological features of the ENT organs in case of otorhinolaryngological as well as general pathologies;
- to learn the basic research methods in otorhinolaryngology, to get familiar with the methods of endoscopy and other modern methods of examining patients, to learn the ways to diagnose and treat the most common diseases within reach of non-specialized doctors, to briefly get familiar with the principles of professional selection;
- to study the optimal schemes of etiotropic and pathogenetic treatment for the main nosological forms of diseases of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses, pharynx, larynx, auditory and vestibular analyzers;
- to get familiar with common diseases of the nose, pharynx, larynx, ear, to learn how to diagnose and treat the most common of them, to pay attention to the connection of some of these diseases with general pathology;
- to get familiar with the clinic of some forms of otitis, sinusitis, laryngitis, tonsillitis and their treatment, including surgical methods;
- to get familiar with the indications for surgical treatment of tonsillitis, the principles of operations.
- to study the clinical picture of injuries of the ENT organs, to teach to determine the urgency of referral to the ENT specialist, to provide first aid for injuries;
- to learn how to provide emergency care for an attack of acute stenosis of the larynx, to introduce treatment methods;
- to get familiar with the methods of diagnosis and treatment of non-inflammatory diseases, as well as tumors of the ENT organs.
2. The subject’s place in the specialist MPEP’s structure
The discipline "Otorhinolaryngology" refers to the base part of block C1 of the discipline studied in the 9th semester.
"Otorhinolaryngology" is one of the basic disciplines that lays the foundation for the study of the surgical pathology of the ENT organs, which is necessary for any clinician, regardless of his/her further specialization. The main provisions of the discipline "Otorhinolaryngology" are necessary for students to further study the following disciplines: Faculty therapy, occupational diseases; Neurology, medical genetics, neurosurgery, etc.

know: the principles of diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases; the basics of pharmacotherapy for various ENT diseases. be able to: assess the cause and severity of patient's condition and justify the choice of complex treatment; determine the volume and sequence of therapeutic, surgical and organizational measures (inpatient care, outpatient treatment, counseling); substantiate the scheme, plan and tactics of patient management, indications and contraindications to therapy. master: methods of using drugs (drops, ointments), techniques for paratimpanal injections; methods of removing foreign bodies from the nose and ear. |
4. The content of the discipline
The total labor output of the discipline is 3 credits, 108 hours
- Introduction. Propaedeutics (anatomy, physiology, examination methods of the ENT organs).
- Diseases of the nose and paranasal sinuses.
- Diseases of the pharynx and larynx.
- Ear diseases: Purulent diseases. Non-purulent diseases.
- Urgent ENT assistance. Tumors of the ENT organs. Malignant tumors of the ENT organs.
- Medical and labor expertise in otorhinolaryngology. Occupational diseases.
5. Types of educational work
Lectures, practical classes, unsupervised work. The study of the discipline ends in the 9th semester.
