Neurology, Medical Genetics, Neurosurgery 

The total workload of the discipline amounts to 6 credits units, 216 hours. 
The purpose of mastering  the  discipline  Neurology, medical genetics, neurosurgery is the study of the anatomical and physiological features of the structure and development of the nervous system, diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system. 
The objectives of studying the discipline Neurology, medical genetics, neurosurgery are the study of the topical diagnosis of diseases of the nervous system, methods diagnosis, the study of the etiology, clinic, pathogenesis and treatment of diseases of the nervous system. 
The academic discipline Neurology, Medical Genetics, Neurosurgery refers to the basic part of the unit S1 “Subjects”. 
Neurology, medical genetics, neurosurgery  is one of the basic clinical disciplines, which is interconnected with the disciplines: anatomy, physiology, pathological physiology, pathological anatomy, histology, microbiology, internal, infectious, surgical diseases, public health and public health, epidemiology, clinical pharmacology. 
Knowledge of neurology, neurosurgery and medical genetics are required to prepare a qualified general practitioner, has a system of universal and professional competence, capable and ready for independent professional activity. 
 
The process of studying the discipline is aimed at the formation of the following competencies: 
  • be able to analyze patients complaints and medical history, results of medical examinations,  laboratory tests, special equipment diagnostics and others;
  • to determine the presence or absence of pathologies, medical disorders and diseases;
  • to determine the pathological states and conditions, symptoms and syndromes, nosology forms according to the International Classification of Diseases (10 revision)   -  SPC-5;
  • be able to determine the optimum strategy for treating patients with different types of diseases  - SPC-6;
  • be able to analyze patients complaints and medical history, results of medical examinations,  laboratory tests, special equipment diagnostics and others; to determine the presence or absence of pathologies,
  • medical disorders and diseases  - SPC-8 
     
In the course of studying the discipline Neurology, medical genetics, neurosurgery, students acquire knowledge in the sections of general and private neurology, medical genetics and neurosurgery, in the study of motor and sensitive spheres, coordination of movements, higher cortical functions, autonomic nervous system, vascular diseases of the brain and spinal cord, vertebral diseases and diseases of the peripheral nervous system, infectious and degenerative diseases, issues of hereditary diseases, tactics in neurosurgical pathology. 
On the basis of acquired knowledge, skills of correct examination of a neurological patient, anamnesis collection, assessment of neurological status, diagnosis, the appointment of additional laboratory and instrumental methods of research, the purpose of treatment are formed.  
Acquired skills of possessing a topical and clinical diagnosis, basics of working with case histories, basics of analyzing the results of clinical, laboratory and instrumental methods of patient examination. 
Types of educational work: lectures, practical lessons, сourse works, independent work. The study of discipline ends with an exam.
